If you've been looking forward to another series of PokerStars SCOOP - the Spring Championship of Online Poker - then the good news is we've now got the schedule. As usual the list of SCOOP tournaments covers all the main poker formats, with small, medium and large buy-ins for each event.
My favorite games are Omaha Hi-Lo, Stud Hi and Stud Hi-Lo, so when I come to work out which tournaments to play, I'll be looking for these ones first. Of course, I'll also try to play the HORSE tournament and 8-game events, especially those with the higher buy-ins, and the Main Event.
People often ask me which games (from 8-game) are my best ones. I think I'm playing all these games on about the same level, and this level is something "above average". However, I don't consider myself "top-class" in any of these games.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to play every SCOOP event as I will likely be in Moscow where it is night time when the tournaments start. That's why it is important to plan carefully for events you would like to play from the schedule.
PokerStars is by far the largest online poker site, with lots of new players starting out their poker journey every day. For the newer and less experienced players, they should probably stick to the No Limit Hold'em events in SCOOP as this will be the simplest format for them.
This week's Sunday Million -- the weekly $215 no-limit hold'em tournament on PokerStars that is online poker's most popular event -- didn't quite match last week's in terms of turnout, but it was every bit as exciting. A field of 7,989 took part this time around, and after almost 12 hours of play it was D_DIGGLER99 of Canada outlasting everyone for a first-place finish and prize of $189,044.16. And thanks to a three-handed final table deal, Epiphany77 of the United Kingdom also earned a handsome payday of $201,711.71 for a runner-up finish.
It took about five hours for the money bubble to burst. With 1,170 players remaining, be lucky9 was leading with about 437,000, with peso7 (316,000) and dhutt (305,000) occupying the next two spots in the counts.
About three hours later the field had shrunk below 100 players with shaldyn, CHUBSTER, and Telefonkiosk topping the counts as the only players with more than 2 million chips, while both dhutt (543rd, $479.34) and peso7 (319th, $639.12) had fallen.
All of those other former leaders also would be eliminated once the tourney was approaching the 10-hour mark and field had shrunk to 18, with shaldyn going out in 81st ($1,997.25), be lucky9 in 56th ($2,476.59), CHUBSTER in 32nd ($3,195.60), and Telefonkiosk just missing the last two tables by finishing 19th ($3,516.16). Meanwhile Epiphany77 had moved well ahead of the pack with more than 10.6 million when no one else had 7 million.
It would take about an hour more for eight more to hit the rail, with Evan "SenorPokes" Jarvis (18th), WayneDaBang (17th), and Phil "bergeroo" Huxley (16th) each earning $4,234.17; ParisienO (15th), Spraggs (14th), and swimmer25 (13th) taking away $6,391.20 apiece; and Ravic85 (12th) and João "tchonchiti" Almeida (11th) cashing for $8,548.23 each.
Hand-for-hand play began with 10 players left, and before long two eliminations occurred on the same hand.
On one table it was domastah open-raising all in for 1,581,894 (a little over six big blinds) from the button with [Qs][5d] and getting called by Epiphany77 in the big blind holding [Ks][Js]. The board ran out [8c][Kh][5s][8h][Jc], and domastah finished 10th for $8,548.23.
Meanwhile Sergio "trujustrus" Cabrera was open-pushing with a bigger stack of 4,375,522 from the small blind on the other table with [Js][9s] and got looked up by D_DIGGLER99 in the big blind who had been dealt [As][5s]. The community cards rolled out [5d][6h][Ts][6s][3d], giving D_DIGGLER99 sixes and fives and ending Cabrera's run in ninth for a $12,382.95 payday.
With crazyalex696 having moved ahead of Epiphany77 in the counts and one seat already empty, the final table had begun.
Seat 1: pixigirl123 (Denmark) -- 5,316,381
Seat 2: schmuggel15 (Germany) -- 7,114,369
Seat 3: crazyalex696 (Latvia) -- 25,109,905
Seat 4: rashevski2 (Belarus) -- 4,479,528
Seat 5: Epiphany77 (United Kingdom) -- 21,063,338
Seat 6: holy h3ll (Israel) -- 3,385,394
Seat 7: empty
Seat 8: D_DIGGLER99 (Canada) -- 8,879,166
Seat 9: MorrisB1 (Netherlands) -- 4,541,919
It took less than an orbit for the next elimination to come.
The blinds were 150k/300k with a 30k ante when it folded around to Epiphany77 in the small blind who raised to 660,000. holy h3ll responded by pushing all in for 3,915,394 from the big blind and Epiphany77 made the call.
It was [Ac][Qc] for Epiphany77 while holy h3ll needed help with [Kc][Qs]. The board ran out nine-high -- [9h][8h][6h][4s][3h] -- and holy h3ll was out in eighth.
The blinds moved up to 200k/400k, and soon it was rashevski2 pushing for 2,499,528 from early position and getting a single caller in MorrisB1 from the button. rashevski2 showed [As][4c] and was behind MorrisB1's [Ah][Qs]. The board came [Ks][9d][7h][5c][Qd], and rashevski2 was done in seventh.
About five minutes later, crazyalex696 open-raised all in for 5,958,722 from the button and Epiphany77 called from the small blind. Again it was a situation of both players having aces but the all-in player being outkicked as crazyalex696 had [As][2d] and Epiphany77 [Ac][Qs]. The community cards rolled out [Jc][Qh][Kc][Kd][5s] and crazyalex696 was eliminated in sixth.
Soon after that hand the blinds were still 200k/400k when D_DIGGLER99 opened for 880,000 from the small blind and MorrisB1 called from the big blind.
The flop came [3h][Ad][9d] and D_DIGGLER99 fired 666,500 into the middle with MorrisB1 again calling. The turn brought the [3s] and a check from D_DIGGLER99, and MorrisB1 took the opening to bet 2.4 million. D_DIGGLER99 called.
The river was the [Ts]. This time D_DIGGLER99 pushed all in for more than 7.7 million and MorrisB1 called with the 3,666,866 left behind. MorrisB1 had [6c][3c] for trip treys, but D_DIGGLER99 had a full house with [Ah][Ac] and MorrisB1 was sent railward in fifth.
The final four paused the tourney briefly to discuss a possible deal with Epiphany77 way out in front with over 43 million, D_DIGGLER99 next with a little under 19.5 million, and schmuggel15 and pixigirl123 both around 8.7 million. But an agreement couldn't be reached and play soon resumed.
A few more minutes passed, then with the blinds up to 250k/500k it was chip leader Epiphany77 raising to 1 million from under the gun and pixigirl123 reraising all in for 6,086,762 from the small blind. It folded back to Epiphany77 who called, turning over [As][Th] to pixigirl123's [Ah][3c], and five cards later -- [7d][6d][Jd][7h][4h] -- they were down to three.
The tourney was paused again and numbers were once more produced for a possible chop. Epiphany77 still led and was up to 53,213,402, D_DIGGLER99 was next with 18,017,860, and schmuggel15 was third with 8,658,738. This time all ended up agreeing to the ICM figures and a deal was struck leaving $20,000 on the table for which to play.
schmuggel15 hung on for a while, but with the blinds up to 300k/600k pushed all in for 7,068,538 from the button and got a caller in D_DIGGLER99 from the big blind. schmuggel15 had [Ad][Kc] and the preflop edge versus D_DIGGLER99's [Kh][Qs], but the flop came [Kd][5s][Qc] to pair the latter twice, and after the [4s] turn and [8c] river schmuggel15 was out in third.
Epiphany77 began heads-up play with close to a 2-to-1 chip advantage with 52,170,142 to D_DIGGLER99's 27,719,858. However on the eighth hand between the pair the stacks were essentially switched in a hand that saw D_DIGGLER99 earn a big double-up.
After D_DIGGLER99 called a preflop three-bet from Epiphany77, then Epiphany77 check-called a bet on the flop from D_DIGGLER99, Epiphany77 check-raised all in on the turn with the board showing [9s][Td][Qc][2d] and D_DIGGLER99 called.
D_DIGGLER99 had [Jd][9c] for nines and an open-ended straight draw while Epiphany77 had [8c][7h] for a lesser open-ender, and when the river brought the [9h] D_DIGGLER99 had seized the lead.
They battled onward, then with the blinds still 300k/600k it was D_DIGGLER99 raising to 1.2 million, Epiphany77 making it 3 million to go, and D_DIGGLER99 calling. The flop came all clubs -- [Kc][4c][3c] -- and Epiphany77 checked. D_DIGGLER99 bet 2.3 million, Epiphany77 check-raised to 5.4 million, and D_DIGGLER99 called.
The turn was the [8s], and Epiphany77 checked again. This time D_DIGGLER99 bet 4.2 million, and when Epiphany77 check-raised again -- moving all in for 18,580,284 -- D_DIGGLER99 was there with the call.
Epiphany77: [Kd][Ts]
D_DIGGLER99: [Ac][As]
Epiphany77 had top pair of kings but no club while D_DIGGLER99 had the overpair with a flush draw as well. The river was the [Qs], and it was all over... using pocket aces a second time to knock out a final table opponent, D_DIGGLER99 had won!
Congratulations to D_DIGGLER99 for topping another huge Sunday Million field to earn a $189K-plus payday. And kudos as well to Epiphany77 who thanks to the three-handed deal took away the biggest cut of this week's Sunday Million prize pool with more than $201K.

Showing last month's victory was not a fluke, defending champion bigbluffzinc was back at the final table again. After taking home $12K from winning the June triple shootout bigbluffzinc would be attempting to become the first back-to-back champ of this event. andyafc#1 also made a return trip to the final table placing seventh last November. The cards fell andyafc#1's way at the end, taking out the defending champ in third place and claiming the $12,000.00 up top just three hands later.
IAMPOKER11 and grampabumkin who made couple of WCOOP final tables back in 2009 would square off for the 81st and final money spot of the triple shootout. With the blinds up to 150/300 ante 25 grampabumpin would shove from the button for 1,961 chips as IAMPOKER11 made the call holding [Qh][Jd]. grampabumkin turned over [3c][Td] and flopped a pair. However, IAMPOKER11's queens on the [Th] [Qd] [8h] [4c] [Ad] board would take down the pot and startup the second round.
Table seven held to key to starting up the final table as exportion, dirty.brasil (final table here in March taking fourth place), and woody1234321 battled it out for the final spot. exportion would export dirty.brasil out in 11th place to face woody1234321 heads-up. woody1234321 would dominate the match winning all six hands as the last one pitted exportion's pocket jacks [Jh][Jd] versus woody1234321's [Qd][Kd]. A jack on the turn would be a bad thing for exportion as it filled woody1234321's straight draw [Ac] [Ts] [7h] [Js] [6s] and started up the final table below:
Seat 1: draken08 (1500 in chips)
Seat 2: scirrocco777 (1500 in chips)
Seat 3: XxSouthyxX (1500 in chips)
Seat 4: taska223 (1500 in chips)
Seat 5: omba (1500 in chips)
Seat 6: andyafc#1 (1500 in chips)
Seat 7: woody1234321 (1500 in chips)
Seat 8: bigbluffzinc (1500 in chips)
Seat 9: vandecouter (1500 in chips)
Early cooler
Usually the first bust out happens around the 25/50 level but the cards sometimes force the action early. With the blinds at 15/30 XxSouthyxX would make a raise to 80 as taska223 call and woody1234321 made it 240 to go from the small blind. XxSouthyxX dumped the raise but taska223 shoved for 1,470 total. Holding pocket jacks [Jd][Jc] woody1234321 made the call for less. taska223 turned over the dominating pocket kings [Ks][Kh] and hit third one by the turn [3c] [Td] [4s] [Kd] [8s] to lock up the 2,870 chip pot and end woody1234321's final table early in ninth place ($775.00).
Chips going south
Still in the 15/30 blind level XxSouthyxX would raise it up to 90 from the button as taska223 called from the small blind and omba made it 218 from the big blind. XxSouthyxX shoved for 1,080 holding [Ac][Qc] as omba's kings [Ks][Kh] were eager to make the call for 830 chips. Eagerness does not always win the pot however as an ace on the flop [7s] [Ad] [8s] [5c] [3c] shipped the 2,186 chip pot to XxSouthyxX and $1,200.00 to omba in eighth place.
Defending champ takes the chip lead
Watch below as bigbluffzinc lets the cards do the talking for a double knockout:
Bad timing to catch big slick for scirrocco777 [Kh][Ah] and XxSouthyxX [Kc][Ad] as both of them failed to overtake the pocket sevens [7d][7s] of bigbluffzinc on the [Ts] [5d] [8c] [4h] [Qd] board to send 4,938 chips to the defending champ. Due to stack sizes scirrocco777 took home $2,200.00 in sixth place while XxSouthyxX got $1,700.00 in seventh.
Last task of the day
If getting $2,735.00 in a freeroll was on the to-do list for taska223, mission accomplished. Just nine hands after bigbluffzinc's double KO and the blinds moving up to 100/200 the two microstacks vandecouter and taska223 tried to gather some headway by shoving preflop for a 1,758 chip pot. taska223's [4s][Qc] out of the big blind was hoping for live cards but instead vandecouter's [Qd][Td] dominated preflop and after the river card fell [As] [2c] [Ad] [7s] [5h] sending out the aforementioned $2,735.00 to taska223 in fifth place.
Quick release
Just two hands later draken08 would shove from the cutoff for 1,627 chips as the table folded to vandecouter in the big blind holding pocket sevens [7c][7s]. The former shortstack had just enough for the call again to take on draken08's [As][5h]. Only the five would find a match on the [Tc] [Td] [5d] [4c] [Kd] board to take down the 3,354 chip pot and hand over $3,350.00 to draken08 in fourth place.
Missed opportunity
A three-way chop would be briefly discussed but a rebuttal by andyafc#1 sent the cards back into the air.
bigbluffzinc would have andyafc#1 all-in on a preflop flip of [Ad][Jc] versus andyafc#1's pocket eights [8d][8c] but failed to catch on the [9c] [7s] [2s] [Kd] [Qh] board for a 7,682 chip pot, sliding the chip lead to the right. Eight hands later with the blinds still at 100/200 andyafc#1 tried bullying bigbluffzinc with a shove from the small blind. Holding big slick [As][Kh] the champ quickly made the call. [6s][7c] for andyafc#1 watched four clubs [6c] [Kc] [Jc] [3c] [9h] trickle out on the board to overtake the flopped top pair and killed the chance for back-to-back victories in third place ($4,500.00).
Three and out
Just three hands of heads-up play between andyafc#1 and vandecouter sent the $12,000.00 to this month's champ. Watch below as andyafc#1 takes the lessons learned in November's final table run to today's win:
andyafc#1 applied the pressure from the small blind with a 10,994 chip shove holding [5d][Ac] as vandecouter made the call for 2,206 with [Qs][Td]. No cards over a nine [6d] [2d] [9d] [8s] [8h] sent vandecouter to the rail as andyafc#1 collected the $12,000.00 first place prize as the July Battle of the Planets champion!

There's one player on the Australian poker scene whose name I refuse to type. Only one. And he's still alive with just 17 players remaining ANZPT Sydney Main Event.
It's not that I don't like the guy. And I do sometime copy and paste. But the fact is the poker persona of the man known only as "Toothpick" is arguably bigger than number of letters in his surname.
Antonis Kambouroglou is part of the furniture here in The Star Poker Room. With results dating back to 2007, he has over US$570,000 in tournament earnings across all sorts of poker disciplines - Holdem, Pot Limit Omaha and even an Aussie Millions gold ring in Two-Card Manila. Kambouroglou is known for being a tough, uncompromising player who is extremely difficult to dislodge from the table. If you get Kambouroglou's chips, you'll know you've been in a dog fight.
However there's one thing that defines Kambouroglou even more than his results.
The toothpick.
If you asked random poker players who "Antonis Kambouroglou" is, they would probably raise an eyebrow in confusion, but ask them if they know who the "Toothpick" is and chances are they have heard of the man known as "Toothpick Tony".
Toothpick Tony is almost a cult hero in this country. At one point, many of the regulars on the ANZPT tour would all use toothpicks at the table in an attempt to tongue-in-cheek honour or emulate their hero. Perhaps looking for a little toothpick run good.
But there is only one toothpick that has lasted the test of time. I can't confirm if it's the same toothpick he's been using ever since 2007, nor do I know if he continues to use the toothpick when he's relaxing on the couch, doing the laundry or sleeping (I'm guessing yes). But I do know, that every single time I've seen him at the poker table, without fail, he's had a toothpick hanging out the side of his mouth.
Toothpick Tony is a force to be reckoned with and we would love nothing more than to see him reach the ANZPT Sydney final table and make a run at the title.
