LAPT8 Uruguay: Lopez extends lead, Moustapha out in 4th

The tournament had been stuck in a limbo of no eliminations and seldom-called all-ins for a while.

But while three players were struggling to stay afloat in that poker purgatory, Mario Lopez thrived. Even though he doubled up German Christiansen --the only double up of the level-- Lopez still has the majority of the chips in play with 2.8 million.

At one point, Lopez even crossed the 3 million mark.

In that hand, Chadi Moustapha raised to 90,000 from under-the-gun and Lopez called from the big blind. The flop came T♣5♣9♥ and Lopez check-called a bet of 85,000.

Lopez check-called another 155,000 bet when the K♠ came on the turn and then a J♥ completed the board.

Lopez took the initiative and bet 360,000, about half of Moustapha's stack.

Moustapha vs. Lopez: Round 16

Moustapha thought until Christiansen called the clock and then Moustapha used up his full minute before he folded.

The hand left Moustapha with 700,000 while Lopez's lead grew to 3.1 million.

Then there were a few more uncalled all-ins before Christiansen finally doubled up.

Down to just 410,000, Christiansen moved all-in from the button and Lopez called from the big blind.

Christiansen tabled T♦T♣ and was ahead of Lopez's A♥5♦. The board ran J♣J♦8♦Q♥3♦ and players were released from their purgatory.

German Christiansen

A player doubled up and Lopez lost a hand.

Things had changed.

Then, with moments left in the level, we lost a player.

Chadi Moustapha raised to 595,000 from under-the-gun and Hilario Quijada called from the small blind. Moustapha turned over 6♣6♠ and was drawing slim against Quijada's J♦J♠.

Moustapha was hoping for a set but the J♥ came on the flop to give one to Quijada instead.

4th-place finisher, Chadi Moustapha

Moustapha, who finished 2nd in LAPT8 Peru a few months ago, became our 4th place finisher and added a $61,140 payday to his resume.

This left us with our final three players, all from Argentina.

Mario Lopez -- 2,850,000
Hilario Quijada -- 1,500,000
German Christiansen -- 920,000

As Alabama Gaming Fight Goes On, Operator Eyes New York

Published on January 28, 2014 by April Gardner

Gaming operators in the state of Alabama have been in a constant battle with lawmakers over the legality of electronic gaming machines. The Attorney general has made it clear that he believes the machines are illegal, while gaming hall owners maintain that their operations are within the law.

While the debate has again heated up in Alabama, one operator is setting their sights on a much bigger market, New York. Greenetrack, which operates a casino in Greene County, stated this week that they would like to open a casino in the Catskills.

"We expect that our bid will be seriously considered should we choose to apply for the gaming license." said Greenetrack, in a statement to The Post. "Accordingly, Greenetrack is building a team to explore this possibility as well as to handle community outreach across the state and to educate New Yorkers on Greenetrack's accomplished casino gaming operation."

Greenetrack was one of several Alabama locations that was raided by law enforcement officials back in 2011. Nearly 400 machines were seized during the operation, with the Attorney general citing Alabama law prohibiting slot machines as a reason for the raids.

Several of the gaming establishments, including Greenetrack, re-opened after the raids. The owners of Greenetrack claim that Green County voters approved the electronic gaming machines back in 2003. The Supreme Court has made a couple of individual case rulings on the machines, but nothing that would give a definitive answer as to whether or not the machines are legal under state law.

The Alabama gaming industry made national headlines when Milton McGregor and Ronnie Gilley, developers of VictoryLand and Country Crossings casinos, respectively, were arrested on charges of bribing state Senators. Gilley pleaded guilty, while McGregor beat his case in court. Over a dozen lobbyists and senators were also charged in the case.

It has been reported that Greenetrack has ties to the Reverend Al Sharpton, but Sharpton has denied having any knowledge of Greenetrack's desire to open a casino in the Catskills.

Atlantic City Casino Revenues Still Plummeting Past Recession End

Even though the recession seems to be over, Atlantic City casino revenues are still on a steady decline.

Play Now at Las Vegas USA Casino! While much of the US is slowly returning back from the effects of the recession, casinos in Atlantic City continue to see steady decline in their revenues. According to statistics from the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, the gaming industry in Atlantic City saw income for July drop five percent from last year's numbers.

Only the Atlantic City Hilton and the Trump Taj Mahal were able to report better business this year than in 2009. Nine other casinos suffered losses from the year previous, and those figures were significantly down from 2008.

Casino operators had used the national impact of the recession as a scapegoat for much of Atlantic City's gaming trouble, but other factors continue to ravage the area's gambling business. Increased competition in neighboring states has ended New Jersey's exclusivity on the East Coast, and the convenience of online casinos continues to draw players in anticipation of the opening of the US gaming market.

Governor Christie has proposed a state takeover of the city's gambling district, but it is debatable whether New Jersey will be able to reverse the direction of the devastation simply through better branding and advertising.

State Senator Ray Lesniak has led the way on several bold concepts designed to rescue Atlantic City's gaming business, including challenging the federal ban on sports betting and suggesting intrastate online gambling run by AC casinos, but the measures are opposed by powerful foes both locally and nationally.

In the meantime, New Jersey's dependable cash cow seems to have gone hooves up.

Ladbrokes Says Return Customers Key to Online Casino Success

Ladbrokes made proactive moves in management designed to keep the online casino operator healthy, profitable, and dominant in its industry.

Cherry Red Casino! Ladbrokes shook up its management staff this week, replacing the head of online gaming and the director of retail operations, among other moves. Company CEO Richard Glynn told the Wall Street Journal that the operation needed refreshing and updating, with a goal of generating online casino patron loyalty.

Increasing promotions, offers, and incentive programs is a focal point for Ladbrokes, along with supplying state-of-the-art technology. Beyond creating traffic to its Internet gambling sites by drawing new visitors, Ladbrokes is preparing for intensification of competition by targeting ways to retain customers who have previously used the service.

This means offering the most modern adaptations of sports betting, such as live wagering featuring in-game play and constantly shifting odds. It also involves concentration on separating and raising brand awareness above other online gaming operators, and providing responsive customer service.

"We are moving swiftly to address historical operational weaknesses," Glynn told the Journal. "We are changing the DNA of the business."

Glynn asserted the changes were necessary before adaptations by competitors such as the newly formed PartyGaming-Bwin union leave Ladbrokes trailing in a rapidly shifting online casino environment.

FSB Technology to provide online sportsbook solution to Toals bookmakers

Platform provider FSB Technology (UK) Ltd has agreed a deal to provide Toals bookmakers with its first online sports betting platform.

The supplier will design a bespoke web and mobile service for the popular independent retailer who has shops across Northern Ireland.

They will trade a number of different sports, both pre-match and in-play, including their market-leading horseracing product, allowing Toals to control the look and feel of the site via their content management system.

Toals will also be given access to FSB’s unique trading-led CRM tools that let operating partners tailor bonus offers and betting incentives to individual customers.

FSB’s business development director, Richard Thorp, said he was delighted to have teamed up with Toals, whose punter-first approach reflected that of their own.

He added: “We’re very pleased to have partnered with Toals, who were very keen to give their loyal shop customers what they wanted online rather than what is available elsewhere.

“Our managed solution will enable them to deliver on that promise and refine their offer accordingly, whilst maintaining the style of delivery that has made them popular over the years.

“As well as a diverse range of data feeds, a top trading team and a wide variety of sports, they will also have our modern CRM tools at their disposal.”

Gary Toal, managing director of Toals, said: “We’re very confident FSB’s service and their tailored approach will be well-received by our customers.

“They can now enjoy our famous customer service online and on their mobile devices because we have the right tools to deliver a top class betting experience across all channels.”

FSB Tech’s managed service includes a proprietary live sports betting platform, real-time algorithmic pricing models and CRM tools for player segmentation and bonusing.

New Hampshire's New Online Gambling Funding Method Eludes UIGEA

A method being used by the New Hampshire Lottery to give customers funding at its new online gambling site may prove of use to Internet casinos trying to stay clear of UIGEA enforcement.

Play Now at Slots Oasis! The state of New Hampshire is preparing to operate its own online gambling site next week, and lawmakers have devised an intriguing method of avoiding the UIGEA Internet gaming ban. As the controversial law prevents payment processing to and from online gambling sites, New Hampshire will sell physical tickets through the lottery, then those tickets wioll be used by players to fund time at online casino games.

By collecting all payments through the sale of tickets, the state does not need to accept Internet payments which could be blocked by the pernicious UIGEA enforcement. Money only exchanges hands for the transactions involving the purchase of a paper ticket, made by the customer in person.

Then, although the patron goes home and proceeds to gamble at the online casino site, he never needs to use his credit card or a third-party payment system, as the ticket carries coded information allocating him the proper credit at the gaming site.

The system in some ways mirrors the design of sweepstakes Internet gambling cafes, that provide online casinom access to customers who purchase phone time cards. Payoffs are made in accrued time, and then the phone cards are exchanged for cash before the customer leaves the store.

Selling tickets that carry an exchange value may be a method tested by adventurous online casino operators eager to avoid the difficulties presented by the recent UIGEA limitations. The code from the ticket could then allocate funds to an online casino account, without cash ever directly changing hands.

If it can be established that the tickets can be used for purposes other than gaming, then the fact that online gambling is one of the options available should not disqualify those sales from credit card purchases, and third party processing would no lnger be needed.

2015 ACOP Day 2: Li leads the charge into Day 3

157 made it to Day 2. 92 of them won't be able to say the same for Day 3.

Today was host to five 90-minute levels at PokerStars LIVE Macau, finishing up just in time for the ACOP Players Party. Late registration ended after the first level this afternoon as the remaining poker hopefuls found out that they were playing for a HK$5,885,000 (~US$760,000) top prize.

At the start of play it was Japan's Yasuhiro Ojiri who led the pack but when chips were bagged up tonight that honour went to Yuguang Li. He had a great day on the felt and ran his stack up to a monstrous 440,300.

li day 2.jpg

Current chip boss - Yuguang Li

Li is notorious in Macau after a whirlwind couple of days back in March. His achievement went down in history after he topped the 987-runner MPC22 Red Dragon for HK$1,848,000 ($238,000) before jumping in the High Roller and shipping that too for HK$1,647,000 ($219,000). Maintaining a dominant chip advantage going into Day 3 here Li looks primed for another impressive finish.

Also among the action was a strong Australian presence with 15 of the nation's players pulling up seats for Day 2. When all was said and done only five would remain. Billy 'The Croc' Argyros leads the way on 261,300 followed by Michael Addamo (227,200), Victor Hon (77,900), David Wang (55,900) and Matthew Wakeman (48,600).

The Team PokerStars contingent was also out in force today. Seven went in but only three survived. Mikhail Shalamov leads that pack with 161,400 ahead of Isaac Haxton with 77,200 and Bryan Huang on 54,300.

Still in the hunt and returning tomorrow for Day 3 are Andy Andrejevic (159,600), Christoph Vogelsang (127,100), Tom Alner (119,800), Raymond Wu (113,200), Connor Drinan (112,200), Russell Thomas (109,200), Daniel Demicki (97,300), Erik Seidel (96,800) and Steve O'Dwyer (47,600).

Tony Yat Wai Cheng (Hong Kong) - 288,500
Zhengye Yao (China) - 266,300
Billy Argyros (Australia) - 261,300

Shunu Zang (China) - 207,100
Peiran Liu (China) - 201,000
Patrick Mahoney (USA) - 185,300

For others though it was a different story with a horde of notables falling by the wayside today. Daniel Neilson, John Juanda, Andrew Hinrichsen, Martin Kozlov, Sam Higgs, Dario Sammartino, Anton Astapau, Tom Alner, Pratyush Buddiga, Joe Hachem, Stevan Chew and Xuan Liu were all among those who hit the rail on Day 2.

That's all the poker action here for tonight. It's now time for the ACOP Players Party - that means either celebratory or commiseration drinks depending on how each player fared today. We'll let you know all about it tomorrow right here on the PokerStars Blog. Thanks for joining today's coverage and we hope to see you again!
