RPT St Petersburg: Kravchenko woe

There are two frustrating things that can befall you in a poker tournament: firstly your aces can get cracked, and secondly there will be times when you bust on the bubble. Sometimes, both these things happen together; two misfortunes that make for one devastating conclusion.

Such was the case for Team PokerStars Pro Alex Kravchenko yesterday. He'd been comfortable enough in day two of the debut Russian Poker Tour event in St Petersburg, and was looking to make a deep run into the money, which started in 18th place (201 entries).

rptkrav.jpg

Alex Kravchenko: aces woe

With 19 still in with a shout, and with 50,000 chips behind him, the home favourite moved all in confidently with A-A when chess player Alex Grishuk pushed with what turned out to be a rather feeble A-2.

The double up would make Kravchenko, a former WSOP Main Event final tablist, a force to be reckoned with. But wait! A two on the flop, and another falling devastatingly on the river was enough to send Kravchenko to the rail in 19th place - just one off the money.

Grishuk's slice of luck did not last, though. Just a short while later he got all his chips in with 10-10 and was busted by Vadim Markushevsky's A-K when the king fell on the river.

rptprize.JPG

The glass trophy - and, for no obvious reason, a telephone!

That gave Markushevsky the momentum to last the day and reach today's final table of nine players, where Dumitru Gaina from Moldova will lead the pack chasing the 10,600,000 rubles first price (about $300,000):

1. Dumitru Gaina, Kishinev, Moldova - 501,000
2. Sergey Popuk, Arkhangelsk, Russia - 302,000
3. Sergey Solntsev, St. Petersburg, Russia - 256,000
4. Vadim Markushevsky, Minsk, Belarus - 256,000
5. Anatoly Ozhenilok, St. Petersburg, Russia - 203,000
6. Bulat Bikmetov, Novokuznetsk, Russia - 181,000
7. Evgeny Zaytsev, Lubertsy, Russia - 178,000
8. Alex Pantuhin, Kaliningrad, Russia - 76,000
9. Oleg Suntsov , St. Petersburg, Russia - 64,000

It had taken 90 minutes to burst the final table bubble, so spare a thought for Mark Vronsky, who pushed with pocket nines but ran into a mighty - and ultimately - conquering J-Q.

Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso started day two but was unable to make things happen with her short stack of little more than 10,000. She pushed with an ace, was called by Q-7, and a seven on the board was enough to eliminate her. She was gracious in defeat, though, and offered a "good luck" in Russian to everyone at the table. PokerStars sponsored player Ivan Demidov also fell early in the day in 39th place.

Today's final kicks off at 3pm local time. If you can decipher Russian - and let's face it, it's easy enough... NOT! - you can follow the action with Pavel Sychev, our Russian blogger right here. If you can not understand a word of it, don't worry - we'll report on the progress on these esteemed pages later!

IPT Malta: Level 17-20 updates (5,000/10,000/1,000)

4.24pm: Break time
Players are now on their second break of the day. The remaining two levels of the day will be in anew update here.

4.20pm: Bad beat for Jeschke
Jonas Jeschke just suffered a nasty exit. He was all-in with A♣K♦ against Jaroslaw Sikora's A♥J♣ but the board came 8♥7♠9♣Q♠J♠.

"Ouch," said the German.

Sikora is up to 820,000

4.06pm: De Meulder out
The last Team PokerStars Pro in the IPT, Matthias De Meulder, is out. He pushed with king-queen for his last 160,000 but ran into Nandor Solyom's ace-jack. The Romanian is up to 480,000.

3.59pm: Mclean eliminated
EPT10 London finalist Leo Mclean has just been knocked out. He called all-in on the river of a 7♥8♣3♣4♣7♦ board against Julian Track. Track showed J♣9♣ for a turned flush and Mclean's J♥J♠ was no longer good.

EPT11MAL_Jamila_Von_Perger_9510_JulesPochy.jpg

Jamila Von Perger, still in the hunt with less than 70 players left

3.53pm: Guy doing well
Guy Bachar, who finished both Day 1 and Day 2 third in chips, is doing even better today. The Israeli player has 1,460,000 at this point and is the chip leader.

3.42pm: O'Dwyer bluff fails
On the turn of a 3♣5♠K♠Q♠ board, Giuseppe Comitini checked and Steve O'Dwyer bet 75,000. The Italian called before checking the 6♥ river, O'Dwyer bet 150,000 this time, most of his stack and Comitini called again.

O'Dwyer sighed and showed 4♠4♦, Comitini won the pot with Q♣T♣.

3.30pm: Zsemlye doubles up
Viktor Zsemlye just got a crucial double up, he pushed for 180,000 with A♣K♣, Pavlos Benakis making the call with T♣T♠. The board came 6♠A♦3♦9♠2♦ and Benakis was knocked back to 560,000.

3.21pm: Level 20 - 5,000/10,000 (1,000)
The players have moved onto the fourth level of the day.

3.20pm: €2k IPT High Roller draws big field
There are already more than 250 players seated in the IPT Malta €2k High Roller. After a record-breaking IPT Main Event, and giant fields for all the other local tour high rollers this season, the Malta edition is expected to attract huge numbers. Among those already playing are Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree, PokerStars-sponsored PCA 2014 winner Dominik Panka, PCA 2013 champ Dimitar Danchev, WSOP runner-ups Jorryt van Hoof and Jesse Sylvia plus EPT9 Player of the Year Jan Bendik, Chidwick, Dermot Blain, Patrick Leonard, Kitty Kuo, Fabio Sperling, Michel Abecassis, Steven van Zadelhoff, Ruben Visser, Frederik Jensen, Sam Greenwood and Simon Ravnsbaek. 15 players have won their seat via yesterday's live satellite here in the Portomaso Casino

3.12pm: Alvarado wins big
JC Alvarado just added a substantial number of chips to his stack, eliminating Rain Heeringas in the process. All the money went in on a 6♠5♦T♠ flop, Alvarado having flopped two pair with 6♥5♥ against Heeringas' nut flush draw A♠4♠. The 8♦ on the turn gave the Estonian a gutshot as well but the Q♦ on river was a blank. Alvarado is up to 800,000

3.04pm: Chip leaders
At this point there are 86 players remaining, the five biggest stacks at this point appear to be the following:

Hendrik Koops - 1,000,000
Mike Neuens - 980,000
Hugo Lemaire - 950,000
Georgi Abuladze - 850,000
Glenn Cymbaluk - 840,000

2.52pm: Lin done
Xia Lin is out, he ran J♦J♠ into Klevis Pali's K♠K♦ with the board coming 8♥T♠7♥3♠2h]. Pali is now up to 320,000.

2.42pm: 'bout tree fiddy
Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder moved all in over the top of an initial 17,000 raise, Luca Fiorini then reshoved behind him and the original raiser folded.

De Meulder: A♥Q♠
Fiorini: J♣J♥

The board came 8♦6♥Q♦2♦Q♣ and De Meulder increased his stack to over 350,000.

2.34pm: Lemaire still in charge
Hugo Lemaire has increased his stack further, he's the first player to reach seven figures, the Frenchman has 1.1 million.

2.30pm: Koops doubles through Biz
A huge double up for Hendrik Koops, all in with J♥J♦ against Mustafa Biz' A♣Q♠. The board ran out J♠3♦5♦A♠7♣ and Koops moved up over 600,000 while Biz was left crippled.

EPT11MAL_Martin_Jacobson_9506_JulesPochy.jpg

Martin Jacobson busted after about two hours of play

2.20pm: Level 19 - 4,000/8,000 (1,000)
Players are back from break and cards are in the air.

2.07pm: Urbanovich final tables the midnight Hyperturbo
Not content with taking down the €25k High Roller at EPT Malta yesterday for €572,300, Polish pro Dzmitry Urbanovich took advantage of that event's early finish and managed to fit in another tourney last night. He joined a 183-strong field in the first midnight Hyperturbo of the EPT Malta Poker Festival - with a slightly smaller €500 buy-in - and finished eighth. The €2,405 prize isn't even 0.5% of what he won earlier in the day! Swedish player Niclas Adolfsson took the trophy and €19,660; his last cash was at EPT Prague when he made the final of a €1k side event. Joao Vieira, up among the top three in the race to be EPT Player of the Year, got in some early Malta Bronze POY points by finishing third for €9,135.

2.05pm: Break time
Players are on the first break of the day.

1.54pm: Jacobson out
WSOP Main event champion Martin Jacobson spent the better part of two hours grinding a short stack but news has just come in that the Swede has just been eliminated. Other players to be eliminated include Andreas Papadopoulos, Georgy Filippovich, Savvas Omirou, Guillaume Valle and Andreas Vlachos.

1.43pm: Bellanca finished
Giorgio Bellanca is out, he called all in against Benjamin Fourgerouze with 9♥9♦ against A♣Q♣ but the board ran out K♠Q♠K♣A♥5♠ and Fourgerouze knocked out the Italian. Roughly 120 players remain

1.29pm: Triple up for Mclean
Leo Mclean shoved preflop for just over 60,000 before Yordan Petrov also reraised all in. It was passed to Ognyan Dimov and he called all in as well.

Mclean: A♦K♥
Petrov: Q♦Q♥
Dimov: T♦T♥

The board came K♣5♣9♣K♠4♣ - no-one had a club and so Mclean scooped the main pot to move up to 195,000. Petrov picked up a small side pot, eliminating Dimov.

1.20pm: More people gone
The latest players out include Nihat Karyagdi, Sharon Suissa, Sebastiano Giudice, David Longmate, George Daniel Ghioca, Richard Toth, Enrico Scalabrino, Domenico Gala and Giuseppe Veneziano Broccia.

1.11pm: De Meulder finished
Game over for Team PokerStars Pro hristophe De Meulder, he pushed nines into Michal Maryska's jacks to bust out in 135th place. He's immediately gone across to rail his brother Matthias.

EPT11MAL_Matthias_De_Meulder_9533_JulesPochy.jpg

Last remaining Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder

1.01pm: Level 18 - 3,000/6,000 (1,000)
The second level of the day has begun.

12.55pm: More eliminations
Viatcheslav Ortynskiy, Duane Baillet, Dario Sorrenti, Marko Mikovic, Tonny van Eck, Jordi Urlings and Antonio Leotta all failed to survive the first level of Day 3.

12.49pm: Lemaire increases lead
On the turn of an A♦A♠4♣6♦ board Hugo Lemaire raised Michal Maryska's 32,000 bet to 80,000. The Czech player made the call to see the 9♦ river, Maryska checked and Lemaire moved all in. Maryska tanked for about four minutes before the clock was called on him, the clock ran down and his hand was mucked. Lemaire looks to be over 900,000 now.

12.42pm: Vamplew gone
David Vamplew managed a double up with queen-six against ace-four, but then immediately had queens run into aces a few hands later, spelling the end for the EPT champion. Timothee Colcher got knocked out by A♣A♠, in this case belonging to Julian Track. Colcher had A♦Q♠ and the A♥9♣7♥5♣2♥ board changed nothing

12.38pm: More exits
Claudio Pagano, Jari Mahonen, Remo Marti, Tony Nadau, Paolo Labiance, Christopher Howden, Alexander Ivarsson, Bastien Legret and Cuomo Bartolomeo are the latest players to be eliminated.

12.31pm: Heitmann eliminated
Team PokerStars pro Jan Heitmann has been knocked out, according to Balazs Botond the German player pushed for 90,000 over a raise with pocket nines only to find Giorgio Bellanca behind him with pocket tens.

12.21pm: Exits a-plenty
So far Auke Attema, Leonardo Maria Armino, Adrian Ko, Giuseppe Di Stefano, Gregor Abmayr, Dimitrios Farmakoulis, Paolo Pellegrini, Piotr Zawadzki and Ruben Tack have all been knocked out.

12.09pm: Wrobel doubles through De Meulder
Not a great start for Team PokerStars Pro Christophe De Meulder who just doubled up short stack Tomas Wrobel with 6♣6♠ against K♣K♦. Wrobel moved up to 90,000 while De Meulder dropped to 235,000.

12.00pm: Level 17 - 2,500/5,000 (500)
The first of today's six levels is under way.

11.53am: Welcome to Day 3 of the IPT Main Event
There are just 168 players returning for Day 3 of the biggest ever IPT event. Hugo Lemaire leads with 689,500 but three Team PokerStars Pros remain with Matthias De Meulder (293,500), Christophe De Meulder (282,000) and Jan Heitmann, (115,900). Today, the tournament will play another six levels with no dinner break meaning play should end around 6.30pm CET.

New Macau Boss Returns Uncertainty to Casinos Future

A new chief executive running Macau for China means an unsure future for casinos and gambling in the area, just as accelerated growth was returning to the gaming industry.

Just as growth was returning to Macau after moves by the Chinese government had slowed the gambling zone's economic boom, a new leader for the former Portugese colony brings uncertainty regarding sustaining the recent rise. Fernando Chui took over as Macau chief executive today, with orders from Chinese superiors to rein in growth spurts and find other means for expansion than just casino gambling.

Macau had seen double-digit growth for the first few years following the opening of its gambling market, as major operators such as Las Vegas Sands, MGM Mirage, and Wynn arrived to compete with the established Stanley Ho empire. But Chinese officials, worried that out-of-control growth was creating social disorder, put limits on visas of mainland citizens looking to travel to China's only legal gambling area.

Recent easing of restrictions led to new growth this year, and the US casino operators held or planned IPOs on the Hong Kong exchange to raise money to continue development and expansion. Now, Chui's ascension has gaming industry analysts watching carefully to see what policies are enacted toward the gambling venues.

"After 10 years, Mr. Chui's job is to stabilize growth," Macau political expert Larry So told the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Journal, gambling creates three-fourths of government revenue in Macau, and October gaming income set an all-time record at $1.59 billion. But rumblings from China, which would love to draw more foreign money while capping mainland Chinese gambling, have included a potential limit on gaming tables in Macau and a raise in age limit from 18 to 21.

As Macau attempts to control corruption and stress on infrastructure and labor pools caused by overly rapid growth, new competition  prepares to aim at Macau's customer base, beginning with the opening of Las Vegas Sands' project in Singapore early in 2010.

PCA 2015: Party time!

After spending 10 days within the bubble of the PCA, away from the humdrum distraction that I once thought of as 'real life', it really feels like poker's in your veins. Take this dream I had last night, for example: Chris Moneymaker in a cowboy hat, waving glowsticks; Ole Schemion playing football in the middle of a crowded ballroom; George Danzer and Liv Boeree dancing together, Gangnam style.

Wait a second...what's this tattered wristband on my arm that smells of sweat and rum? Where did all these glowsticks in my bed come from? There's only one explanation: that was no dream, it was the PCA Players' Party.

PS Party 1.jpg

The annual shindig has become a much anticipated part of the poker calendar, as hundreds upon hundreds of players celebrate a successful tournament series or - worst case scenario - a sunny but expensive holiday in Paradise. This year's incarnation was due to take place outside on the Royal Deck, but for weather reasons was moved inside to the spacious Grand Ballroom.

Any concerns over the venue change were quickly allayed as the ballroom - decked out in spectacular fashion and lit by the kind of giant lasers that a Bond Villain might reject as being 'a bit much' - welcomed hordes of smiling party goers of all ages.

PS Party 2.jpgPS Party 3.jpg

Revellers were entertained by stilt-walkers, fire-breathers and even a full-on samba band, marching through the crowd and getting everyone into the spirit of the occasion. Food stands situated around the room offered cuisine from around the world, while the many (open) bars kept the Bahama Mamas flowing.

PS Party 4.jpgPS Party 5.jpgPS Party 6.jpg

Breakdancers and limbo dancers set the pace, and the crowds dutifully followed suit, waving their glowsticks and flashing LED bracelets in time with the DJ's selections. Everyone from micro-stakes grinders to recreational players, high rollers, friends and children hit the dancefloor amid swirls of dry ice, laser beams and inflatable footballs. On me head, Schemion!

PS Party 7.jpgPS Party 8.jpgPS Party 9.jpg

After the kiddies were all safely tucked up in bed, and literally everyone had had their opportunity to take a picture with Tito Ortiz (what a lovely fellow), the party moved on to Atlantis' hottest nightspot, Aura. Shapes were thrown, moves were busted. Great memories were made and then, speaking from personal experience, lost.

PS Party 10.jpgPS Party 11.jpg

As the doors closed at Aura and the crowds dispersed to get their beauty sleep (personally, I try to never play a $10K turbo without at least 2 hours' rest), there was only one thing left to say:

"Same time next year?"

If you couldn't make it to the PCA Players' Party (or if you were there but can't remember), watch the video below for some highlights:

Licensed Online Casinos to Help Stem New Jersey Revenue Attrition

New Jersey legislators are crafting a bill to allow casinos licensed in Atlantic City to operate online casino gambling in the state.

OnlineVegas.com! New Jersey lawmakers continue to work on a potential state constitutional amendment that would regulate intrastate online casinos in an attempt to get the issue on the November ballot. State Senator Ray Lesniak says the law would be part of the necessary moves to slow the flow of gaming dollars out of New Jersey to alternative gambling venues and sites.

Atlantic City casinos are in a declining spiral of revenue that has already lasted over two years. Struggles in the gambling industry due to the recession have been compounded by the increased competition, both from neighboring states and online casinos.

"There are billions of dollars of gambling money that we're leaving on the table," said Lesniak. "We have time to get this right and craft a constitutional amendment that will maximize revenues for the state and for our tourist destinations."

Despite implementation of the UIGEA, New Jersey is perfectly within its rights to regfulate and license Internet gambling, as long as both the casino and customer are located in the state. The proposed measure would give online casino rights to the casinos licensed to operate in Atlantic City, allowing them to reach beyond the walls of their resorts to acoop up gambling dollars.

Lesniak is also pursuing a sports betting bill, but that amendment may be stickier, as federal law forbids a state to legalize sports gambling. Lesniak is suing to have the law stricken on the grounds that it gives favorable treatment to Nevada over other states.

UKIPT5 Marbella Day 2: Level 11-14 updates (1,500/3,000 ante 400)

4:22pm: Break time
We're inching ever closer to the money here in Marbella as just 162 players remain, 127 of whom get paid. Those who remain are now on a 15 minute break. You'll find updates in a new post shortly. -- NW

4:20pm: Crying call works out for Miranda
You could tell that Antonio Miranda really didn't want to call, but really felt like he was priced in. He'd opened to 6,000 on the button and was now facing a decision for only another 15,000 or so as Jose Luís Rodriguez had shoved from the small blind for just over 21,000.

Miranda had started the hand with about 95,000 so it was a decent portion of his stack that he was potentially putting on the line. After a bit of TV tank time he did make the call and showed 8♣6♠. It was live as Rodriguez had A♣9♠ and the board came 3♥Q♦6♣5♥2♠ to eliminate Rodriguez. -- NW

4:13pm: Perrot eliminated
Budding golfer Luke Perrot never managed to spin up his short stack and busted shortly before the end of the level.

He came by and told the blog that he moved all in with ace-jack suited for 44,000 from the small blind and was called by the big blind, who opened queen-nine. The board ran [q][9][6][10][6] to make his opponent two pair. -- MC
UKIPT5_Marbella_day2_Luke_Perrot.jpgNo spin up for Perrot

No back to back cashes for Perrot

4:05pm: "I had to bet..."
So said Fatima Moreira de Melo after she'd bet into a dry side pot. Hak-Hyun Lee had shoved all-in from under the gun for about five big blinds and picked up calls from De Melo (button) and Alejandro Martínez (big blind).

The flop fell Q♥K♠4♣ and when Martinez checked De Melo fired out a bet of 25,000 forcing him to fold, the Spaniard showed pocket tens as he did so. First to show was De Melo she had pocket sixes and said: "I had to bet, he never has ace-queen or ace-king I don't think," she was in front as Lee had A♦8♥.

The 8♠ turn gave Lee the lead and he held on the 2♠ river. "I saved you," joked De Melo who drops to 107,000 after that hand, Martinez is down to 140,000. -- NW

4pm: Brit watch
There are a fair few holidaymakers (British and Irish players) still left in the field, from chip leader Daniel Price all the way down to short stacks such as Luke Perrot and Lewis Swift.

Perrot (44,000) is sandwiched between Sam Grafton and James Aktin. The latter of those two, along with Perrot, has work to do with 60,000 and Grafton's a little more comfortable on 100,000 despite folding on the river in a three-bet pot.

Swift can be found on the other side of the room and is in shoving mode. His 40,000 shove from early position didn't get any callers. -- MC

3:45pm: Rosales straightens out Galindo
There was already a raise and a call before action reached Rodrigo Rosales on the button, he called as well only for Josep María Galindo to make the price of poker 18,000 out of the big blinds. Action folded back to Rosales and he elected to call.

So it was heads-up to a 9♠2♠8♣ flop, which both players elected to check. The 7♦ fell on the turn and after Galindo checked, Rosales fired out a bet of 24,500, call from Galindo. The Q♦ completed the board again Galindo checked, Rosales fired again - this time 45,000 - and again Galindo tanked before calling. After getting the call Rosales swiftly exposed J♥T♥ for a straight and Galindo couldn't beat it.

After that hand Rosales is up to around 310,000. -- NW

3:35pm: Lattore lives to fight again
From under-the-gun Manuel Saavedra opened to 7,000 and Jose Angel Latorre then three-bet shoved for 44,100 from the cutoff. Next to act was Ignacio Lopez and he cold four-bet all-in for close to 150,000.

The action folded back to Saavedra and he requested a count of Lopez's chips before deciding it was too rich for his blood and left the two of them to fight it out:

Lopez: A♠K♣
Lattore: A♦T♦

It looked bleak for Lattore but a 6♦T♣8♥ flop gave him the lead and he held on the 4♠ turn and 6♣ river. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,500-3,000, ante 400

3:22pm: Sanchez dominates opponent but departs
Juan Jose Sanchez got his chips in good and that's all you can do. He was in the big blind and squeezed all in for 34,000 after a 5,000 hijack raise from Francisco Carrasco and small blind flat from Richard Pearson. Carrasco called and that was enough to scare off Pearson.

Sanchez: K♦J♣
Carrasco: K♠T♠

The board ran T♦A♠T♥A♦8♣ to make Carrasco a full house. His stack rose to 185,000. -- MC

3:15pm: Gone but not forgotten
Day 2 is often referred to as moving day as it's when big stacks start to appear and we reach the money. Of course for those two things to occur plenty of players fortunes have to go the opposite of up. Just 198 players remain now in the Main Event and among those who've seen their chip stack go down to zero are: Antonio Perez, José María Jaen Carrillo, Kurt Karlsson, Daniel Albors, Anatoly Usenko, Jake Samuel, James Noonan, Johan Ray, Spyridwin Koukouris, Steffen Carl, Alexandr Cagrov, Paul McTaggart, Jesus Moreno, Rasmus Larsen, Dirk Schweitzer, Pedro Monteiro, Leonid Sidelkovskiy, Mark James and Patrick Clarke. -- NW

3:05pm:Grafton waits before pouncing
The old check-raise manoeuvre came out of Sam Grafton locker just now to see his worth rise to 92,000.

Luke Perrot raised to 6,200 from under the gun and was called by Eetu Porkka in the cutoff and Grafton in the small blind. All three checked the 9♥3♣Q♥ flop to head to the 8♣ turn. The action was checked around to Porkka who fired 8,000 at the pot. Grafton used both hands to check-raise up to 26,500 and both opponents folded. Perrot's stack dropped down to 26,000. -- MC

2:50pm: Delgado and De Korver depart
Two very dangerous players have been knocked out recently. Vicente Delgado was short on chips and is out as is Pieter De Korver. He was sharing a table with Fatima Moreira de Melo and she told us: "He ran queens into kings twice," ouch. -- NW

2:45pm: De Melo doubles
Fatima Moreira de Melo is up to 60,000 after doubling up through Lasse Frost. She told the PokerStars Blog: "He opened with K♥7♥ and I called from the big blind with [J][10]. The flop was [K][J][10] with two spades, I checked, he bet, I shoved and he called."

Frost has dropped to about 80,000. -- NW

2:40pm: Top ten stacks
The tournament staff vety kindly collated all the big stack counts from each table. Below are the ten biggest of them, led by (a long way) Daniel Price.

2:25pm: De Melo in the danger zone
In the five and a bit seasons of the UKIPT there has yet to be a female winner of a Main Event. Plenty have come close and two of those who have are still in contention here in Marbella. Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo was runner-up to Duncan McLellan at UKIPT4 IOM, she started the day with 68,300 but has slipped to just 26,000 (just over 10 big blinds). She's got some work to do to get back to a workable stack.

It's better news for Katja Spillum Svendsen though. She was third here last year but came back today with just 25,900 to her name, she's since spun that up to 86,000. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,200-2,400, ante 300

2:06pm: Break time
The players are now on a 15 minute break. -- NW

2:05pm: Frost up to 140,000
Lasse Frost has an EPT final table and a UKIPT final table on his list of poker achievements and he now has a lot more chips than he started the day with as he's up to 140,000 from a start of day 36,400.

He just won a huge pot against Hak-Hyun Lee to get to that stack. The vast majority of the chips went in on a 6♠8♣2♦ flop with Frost holding pocket kings and Lee with pocket jacks. The K♥ turn gave Frost a lock on the hand, he was all-in for 58,500 on the flop. -- NW

2pm: Ferguson can't win a pot
It's not been a great start to the day for Alex Ferguson:

The Scot finds himself at a tough table, one that contains EPT11 Deauville champion Ognyan Dimov and WCOOP bracelet holder Vicente Delgado although the Spaniard is well and truly in the danger zone as he only has 24,000.

It's gone a little better for Dimov, he started the day with 33,500 but has all but doubled that despite losing a pot to Enrique Rojas. In the hand in question it folded to Dimov, he limped the button and Rojas checked his option. Both players checked the J♥9♣9♥ board and the 7♠ fell on the turn. Rojas bet 4,000 and Dimov made the call. The 2♦ completed the board and Rojas check-called a bet of 9,000 and won with 7♥5♦ as Dimov had a busted flush draw with 8♥3♥. -- NW

1:55pm: They keep on falling
The following players tried, but failed, to make the top 300: Alexander Stevic, Javier Torregrosa, Cristobal Tomas Alamo, Dionisio Robles, Roland Morckhoven, Heikki Piira, Antonio Isidro Betato, Christopher Howden, Udo Erlei, Angel Martinez, Jonatthan Schuman, Dominykas Mikolaitis, Christopher Craig, Ricardo Sampaio, Ricardo Ibañez, UKIPT4_Marbella_Day2_Olga_Lermolcheva.jpg

Ted Sundin, Samuel Gonzalo, Marciano Harman, Tobias Peters, Mantas Balcytis, Adrian Nunez, David Tierney, Joaquin Augusto Serrano, José Luís Simeon Delgado, Bartosz Piesiewicz, Audrius Stakelis, Manuel O'Shea, Mariusz Domoradki, Marcos Fernandez, Lee Goldsmith, Paulius Mikenas, Juan Antonio Maza, Ander Leonardo, Luís Rojas, Peter Hegedus, Gintaras Simaitis, Ezequiel Macho, Giuseppe Nicola, Juan Mañez, Jose Maria Marfilm, Tobias Grahn, Jari Tapani, Sabastian Huppertz, Marcin Barwinsky and Mark Wagstaff. -- MC

1:40pm: Rosales plays to the crowd
Table 29 is situated alongside the central area where spectators gather and there was quite a crowd around it which suggested a big pot was going down.

Indeed it was as Rodrigo Rosales have shoved all-in for around 130,000 on a 4♥6♠2♥ flop, the action was on Rolf Tomas. The Swede had bet 17,000 on the flop and he was now faced with a decision for his remaining 85,000. After thinking it over for a long time he elected to fold and showed pocket sevens. As he took the pot Rosales couldn't resist showing pocket aces. -- NW

1:30pm: Dutchies converge
Fatima Moreira de Melo and Pieter de Korver ended up on the same table on Day 1A and it hasn't taken long for them to find each other today.

De Korver started the day on 73,600 and has already got that up to 135,000, which may be the reason he's bouncing in is chair, obviously in a great mood.

Moreira de Melo on the other hand looks a little frustrated. She lost a pot to drop to 51,000, from a 68,300 starting point. She was in the small blind and called a button raise from Jaime Tomas Escarrer to see a 9♥4♣A♥ flop appear.

Escarrer continued for 6,000 and Team PokerStars SportStar check-called before checking the 7♠ turn. Escarrer snap shoved all in for 23,200 and Moreira de Melo angrily mucked. -- MC

1:20pm: The Price is right
New chip leader alert! Poor old Ross Mannion, it should be him but it's not as Daniel Price cracked his kings with pocket sevens to win a huge 220,000 chip pot.

1:15pm: Shorties shoving but surviving
Double ups all over the place at the moment:

The first was a classic race, Gioele Maruccia opened to 6,000 from the cut-off, Guillermo Moreo, who was the covering stack re-raised all-in from the big blind and Maruccia called all-in for 54,500 without skipping a beat.

Maruccia: J♥J♣
Moreo: A♠K♥

Maruccia didn't look happy that he was in a race situation but the 4♥3♠3♦ flop was safe enough for him, the 5♠ turn gave Moreo more outs and Maruccia made a face that said: "Come on dealer, more outs!" but he need not have worried as the 7♣ river was a brick and he successfully doubled up to around 115,000, whilst Moreo was left with about 20 big blinds.

One table over it was a Brit on Brit battle of the blinds that created the second showdown. It folded to Arvin Ravindran, he shoved for an effective 26,000 with A♥8♦ and Alexander Kaczmarek found A♠Q♣ and a call.

By the turn of a 7♦3♠5♦6♦ board Ravindran had 40% equity in the hand - way more than the 24% he started with - but the 3♥ river meant Kaczmarek's hand held. -- NW

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 1,000-2,000, ante 300

1:05pm: Tom none the Wiesner
Tom Wiesner would've taken a chopped pot after his all in shove was called but his opponent hit his kicker to bust him.

He was down to 68,000 when he moved all in from the cutoff and he had to wait a couple of minutes before Jari Petteri Kalenius decided on calling from the big blind.

Wiesner: A♣4♥
Kalenius: A♠6♣

The board ran 5♣6♥J♠Q♥3♣. Wiesner shook a couple of hands, wished everyone luck and headed off. -- MC

12:55pm: Bust outs
Tournament staff informed us that they'd expect roughly 33% of the field to be left in after 10 levels, but, 41% of the field returned today. So, it's no surprise that there's been a rush to the exits in the opening 40 minutes. A total of 42 players have busted out for a rate of over one a minute, they include: Omar Rodriguez, Mario Prats, Diogo Veiga, Micha Hoedemaker, Alberto Blasi, Mario Navarro, Mykyta Ishchenko, Duncan Hamilton, Malte Moennig, Jeremy Gesto, Filippo Lazzaretto, Ross Mannion, Davor Pavic, Daniel Stacey, Thomas Muller, Sebastian von Toperczer and Antonio Dieguez Rodriguez. -- NW

12:45pm: No UKIPT champs but a couple of EPT winners
In our Day 2 prelude we mentioned that there would be a new UKIPT/Estrellas winner come the end of this tournament as there were no former champions remaining. But, whilst this tournament might be bereft of those sort of winners we do have two EPT champions still in the mix.

Alexander Stevic is the original champion having won the very first EPT in Barcelona way back in September 2004. He collected €80,000 for that victory in a tournament that cost €1,000 to enter. Fast forward ten and a bit years and Ognyan Dimov was posing for a winner's photo having taken down EPT11 Deauville. He collected € 543,700 for that victory.

Coming into Day 2 it was Stevic who had the edge in terms of chips though as he began the day with 71,500 to Dimov's 33,500. -- NW

12:35pm: Not you too, Jack
Jack Stanton didn't have the best day yesterday and finished with around half starting stack. He told the blog he was never all in but not for want of trying.

He found a spot to get all in just now, with king-queen, but he too ran into aces behind him. Andrey Chizman was the man with rockets and made the call to send Stanton into orbit. -- MC

12:25pm: No Angel for Acero
The dealer at table 34 might not have had his morning coffee today as a few of his basics are off, but not to worry, as Fatima Moreira de Melo is there to make sure he got an ante from everyone and that the player on the button actually got two cards to play with.

Once all that was sorted, Jose Angel Acero - who only had just over starting stack - moved all in from early position and was called by Jonathan Matthews in the small blind.

Acero: K♥Q♣
Matthews: A♠A♦

The board ran 7♠5♥2♠J♥T♠ meaning it was all over by the turn for Acero. -- MC

12:05pm: Shuffle up and deal
Cards are in the air for Day 2.

11:55am: Let the march to the money begin
841 entered, 351 remain and 127 get paid. The first order of business today is clear for all to see, make the money. We expect the bubble to burst sometime around level 15 so there's going to be around four hours of tense poker action before an even more nervous period of play in and around the bubble.

Before then stacks will be built, stacks will be bust and the dreams that go along them will soar or dissipate. One thing that we know for sure already is that whatever happens over the next three days they'll be a new name on the trophy come Sunday as no former champions remain. There are a few left in who've made a final table though as the likes of: Alex Ferguson (124,200), Luke Perrott (104,200), Marcin Barwinski (31,300), Katja Spillum Svendsen (25,900) and Daniel Stacey (17,400) look for a return to the big stage. As will Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo who brings a healthy stack of 68,300 into Day 2.

Fatima Moreira de Melo has a superb record on the UKIPT

They - and everyone else - are looking up at Julian Cabello who leads the way with 201,600. You can see all of the chip counts from Day 1A and Day 1B by clicking on the links and the Day 2 seat draw is here.

It's almost time to shuffle up and deal.

Nevada And Delaware Reach Historic Online Gambling Agreement

The Top Online Casino Gambling News Reporting Site Since 2002!

Published on February 27, 2014 by Terry Goodwin

It was a historic day for online gambling in the US on Tuesday. Nevada and Delaware, two of the three states to regulate Internet gambling last year, have signed an agreement to allow residents of each state to play against online poker players in the other.

"This is going to change the game of online poker in the US and throughout the world," said Analyst Grant Sheridan, shortly after the Nevada-Delaware deal was announced. "To have states allowing cross-border gambling is not only historic, but a game changer."

The deal not only includes Nevada and Delaware, but deal drafters also included the possibility that as other states start to regulate Internet gambling, they may join the network of nationwide online sites.

"The possibilities that are ahead of us are truly extraordinary," said Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval. "The agreement we've signed today provides the tools and the structure necessary for us to pioneer this expanding industry together, as states and partners."

Nevada was the first state to open an online casino late last year. In the time since, Delaware and New Jersey have opened online poker rooms.

New Jersey's roll-out with online gambling has been below expectations, but Governor Chris Christie insisted that had more to do with lofty expectations rather than a lack of excitement from gamblers.

While the agreement between Delaware and Nevada lays the foundation for regulatory rules among states, each state will be permitted to make certain decisions within that framework. States will be permitted to choose which games they offer at their online casinos, and what the stakes are at those casinos.
