This week's must-have NBA daily fantasy basketball players
As we roll into December, you’re hopefully working on a nice daily fantasy profit to spend on Christmas gifts.

The key to winning at this point in the season: Identifying players who produce consistent results with the occasional high-upside result. This is especially true in tournament play, where you need production from every position in order to hit your mark. Risk is essential, but it must be calculated, so pay attention to late roster changes or injury updates, and adjust accordingly.

Here are the top elite-level FanDuel plays of the week:

Wednesday - PG John Wall, Wizards (vs. Lakers)

We all know what the Lakers bring to the table these days: not much on either end of the court. Lowly Los Angeles is playing the second night of a back-to-back and is coming off a humiliating double-digit loss to a Philadelphia 76ers team that hadn’t won a game all season. Wall matches up against a Lakers backcourt that can’t defend anyone - let alone one of the most gifted point guards in the league. Fire him up confidently and expect big totals even in limited action.

Thursday - PG Russell Westbrook, Thunder (at Heat)

Kevin Durant may have the edge in scoring, but Westbrook’s ability to fill the stat sheet makes him a preferred option just about every night Oklahoma City plays. Sure, Westbrook carries a higher price tag, but his production rarely wanes; add in the value he provides with above-average assists and rebounds for his position, and Westbrook is a daily fantasy stud. Not even a matchup with the Heat and their 28th-ranked Pace factor will keep Russ down.

Friday - SF Carmelo Anthony, Knicks (vs. Nets)

Small forward is often considered one of the toughest positions to fill on a nightly basis, so when any of Durant, LeBron James, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard or Anthony suit up, you’re almost obligated to take them. But forget about obligation Friday night - Melo is the clear-cut best choice by virtue of a cake home matchup with the dreadful Nets. Anthony is a lock for 35-plus minutes, and will provide ample points and rebounds against a Brooklyn team that has no way of slowing him down.

Saturday - SG James Harden, Rockets (vs. Kings)

Harden says he wouldn’t mind playing fewer minutes here or there - and that’s probably best if the Rockets hope to keep him fresh for the playoffs. But don’t expect any drastic developments here, and from a DFS standpoint, heavy Harden minutes equal ridiculous production. Harden comes into Wednesday having scored at least 49 FanDuel points in six of seven games - and a home date with a truly horrendous Kings defense should see Harden’s red-hot run continue.

Sunday - SF Kevin Durant, Thunder (vs. Kings)

Given what is discussed in Thursday’s capsule, you may be wondering why we aren’t going with Westbrook again here. It’s a simple matter of choice: Whereas you may opt for Wall or Stephen Curry at point guard Sunday, Durant is alone atop the small forward ledger. Positional scarcity is an important factor to consider, particularly when deciding which elite players to choose - and with Durant the only star SF, blessed with a home game against Sacramento, the choice is clear.
