A massive prop bet between high-stakes poker players Dan Bilzerian and Bill Perkins is set to happen in the coming days.
Bilzerian, the son of a wealthy corporate takeover specialist and now a well-known but infamous social media user, must bike from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in under 48 hours. If he doesn’t, Perkins, a film producer and hedge fund manager, will win the bet.
A total of $1.2 million is on the line for the ride that’s roughly 300 miles.
According to distanceto.com, the elevation of Las Vegas is 2,005.7 feet or 611.34 meters and the elevation of Los Angeles is 284.93 feet or 86.85 meters, which makes for a difference of 1,720.77 feet or 524.49 meters. In other words, the ride will feature some tough climbs through the Mojave Desert.
In preparation for the ride, disgraced cycler Lance Armstrong, who captured seven consecutive Tour de France titles before eventually being stripped of them due to cheating, came on board and offered some coaching and cycling companionship to Bilzerian.
The 35-year-old Bilzerian said that he had not ridden a bicycle in 18 years prior to agreeing to the bet with Perkins. In case you think the wager is easy (48 hours is a lot of time), consider that Bilzerian has had several heart attacks. Though, he was once training to become a Navy Seal.
Though winning $600,000 or so from Perkins sounds like a lot, Bilzerian said he once flipped a coin for a pile of chips worth about $2.3 million, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
Bilzerian Tweeted a video Monday of him and Armstrong hanging out and riding together. The bet calls for the ride to happen by Mar. 31.
