The primary round of the NBA Playoffs was filled with heavy favorites, in spite of visiting teams. Such is the case for tonight’s Game 3 of the San Antonio-Memphis series (9:30 Eastern tip), with the Spurs a double-digit road chalk to take a 3-0 lead after winning and cashing within the first two games at home.“We’ve had a bit of at the underdog, but not that much,” said Chris Andrews, sportsbook director on the SouthPoint in Las Vegas. “Most of the money is at the favorite. We’re at 11.5. I'VE a sense we’ll get to twelve. I’m waiting to take an excellent solid bet before I'M GOING up, but it’ll probably come.”
Indeed, the Spurs went to -12 and beyond on the Mirage.
“Bettors are everywhere in the Spurs,” said Jay Rood, vp of race and sports for MGM Resorts. “We opened at -11, and it’s now -12.5.”
Rood added that bettors also just like the total going over 182.5. An oddsmaker for BetNow.eu said his shop is seeing bettors bank at the under, but as at South Point and The Mirage, San Antonio tickets against the spread are the order of the day.
“Since the road was posted, the action have been overwhelmingly in favor of the Spurs,” the oddsmaker said.
Defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland takes its 2-0 series result in Detroit for Game 3 at 7 p.m. Eastern, in a matchup that’s popular at MGM sportsbooks.
“It’s the heaviest game of the night so far,” Rood said. “Early action at the Pistons drove the number from -5 to -4, however the public is laying the 4 heavy. So we’re currently at 4.5.”
Added Andrews: “We were at Cavaliers -4.5, but we’re at 4 now. The general public is at the Cavs, and now we have some wiseguy money at the Pistons.”
BetNow’s oddsmaker said the Cavs are drawing numerous action, though not up to he expected.
“We were anticipating something very similar to what San Antonio has produced,” he said. “The line is currently favoring the Cavaliers at -4, nevertheless it shouldn’t be a large surprise if the road moves before game time to five points and maybe even 5.5”
Meanwhile, Boston (-3) is back at home for an 8 p.m. Eastern tip, hoping to climb out of a 2-0 hole against Atlanta.
“So far, the action was split between both teams, but in recent hours, we've seen more action coming in for Boston,” BetNow’s oddsmaker said. “This could push the road a whole point in the course of the following couple of hours.”
Rood said Atlanta-Boston betting hasn’t been heavy, but a few of the early money is at the Celtics, and 80 percent of the parlay action is on Boston. And although the Under is on a 14-5 tear within the playoffs, bettors aren’t really going together with it.
“In general terms, we're considering the fact that not many players are jumping in this Under trend,” BetNow’s oddsmaker said. “They are keeping it very leveled.”
