Breakthrough Stories: Leo McClean

Of the stories that emerged from EPT London last season few could match that of Leo McClean for sheer aspiration or fun.

McClean was playing his first EPT tournament, and never only that had earned his seat in a satellite, winning his technique to London (a seat that sometimes costs £5,250) for the princely sum of £82. Days later he found himself on the final table, amid chandeliers and grandeur of the Connaught rooms, surrounded by the most efficient within the business and competing for a primary prize of greater than half one million pounds.

He would possibly not have gotten that, but McClean, a project manager with a zeal for poker, did finish third, cheered every step of how by his incredulous friends, collecting £249,850. It was enough to show that grin into plain laughter.

It was quite literally a dream come true for McClean, who at the back of that result was capable of make project management something of the past and switch pro, dedicating all his time to the sport he loves.

An incredible story that was certainly fun to observe from a couple of feet away at the rail. And you can now see how that story unfolded for yourself on PokerStars.tv

Here McClean, sooner than the only year anniversary, looks back on that glorious week, and that final table which might change his life.
