One week ago today, I stumbled off an American Airlines plane in Montevideo, Uruguay. I wandered blind in the course of the Duty Free shop and into the throng of individuals within the clamshell airport terminal. My driver held up an indication with my name and some others on it. One was Mehrassa. John 'tinajohn9" Mehrassa, to be more accurate.
What I DID NOT know on the time was that Mehrassa was not just set to play the LAPT Punta del Este main event, but he was also in Punta to play for Team Canada within the Americas Cup of Poker. What neither people knew on the time was that Mehrassa could be some of the players who pushed Canada to its second straight Americas Cup win.
"When we raise our youngsters in Canada, the very first thing we teach them is poker," Mehrass joked.
Led by Canadian Team PokerStars Pro Greg DeBora, the Canadian team (DeBora, Mehrassa, Robert Van Thuyl, Henry Wong, and Jason Collins) skunked Team Mexico within the finals to earn the repeat victory and $25,000 in prize money.
"You're a part of a team and you're representing your country. Everybody played hard and did well. Once again, Team Canada came through." DeBora said.
