There’s only one game at the NBA Playoffs docket Thursday night, but it’s a large one, to make sure. Covers talks to Tony Miller, director of the Golden Nugget sportsbook in downtown Las Vegas; Greg Sindall, senior oddsmaker for online site SportsInteraction; and on oddsmaker for online site BetNow about tonight’s action.
San Antonio Spurs at Oklahoma City Thunder – Open: Spurs -2.5; Move: Spurs -1.5
The Spurs are the No. 2 seed within the West, after having a very good regular season that was overshadowed only by Golden State’s record-setting 73 wins. But now San Antonio finds itself up against the wall, trailing the second-round series 3-2 heading into tonight’s 8:30 p.m. Eastern tipoff.
Despite losing Game 5 at home 95-91 as 7-point chalk, the Spurs are a road favorite within the do-or-die Game 6.
“We’re dead even on ticket count and money,” Miller said. “I see some places have a 2, and we’ve got a bit of more cash at the Spurs, so we’ll probably finally end up moving to two also.”
Miller noted the Golden Nugget did accept one significant wager.
“We took a [$5,000] limit moneyline bet at the Thunder,” he said. “That’s probably why we’re still at 1.5.”
At SportsInteraction, the number opened a notch higher, at Spurs -3.
“We took some early action on Oklahoma City and taken the road in to San Antonio -2.5, after which again to -1.5,” Sindall said. “After taking some Spurs action on -1.5, we've moved it back out to Spurs -2.”
BetNow opened at Spurs -4 and made some significant movement.
“In the past 24 hours, that line went down fast to -1.5,” BetNow’s oddsmaker said. “At first, the Spurs got numerous bets, but overnight, the action shifted in favor of the Thunder. Right now, it is vitally down the middle, but by game time, I THINK that 60 percent of the wagers could be for Oklahoma City.”
SportsInteraction and BetNow said bettors just like the over, which started at 195.5 and is as much as 197.5 at both shops.
“The public have been backing the over steadily since we opened,” Sindall said, noting 75 percent of action at the total is at the over.
