Cleveland Cavaliers at Golden State Warriors (-6.5, 208.5)
Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry combined for 20 points on 27 shots and the Golden State Warriors still took Game 1 of the NBA Finals by 15 points. The Cleveland Cavaliers, who visit the soldiers for Game 2 on Sunday, are looking for answers after being outscored at the bench and outworked at the offensive lead to the setback.
Cleveland is down one game to Golden State within the Finals for the second one straight season but came clear of Game 1 happy with the way it played at the defensive end and assured going forward. “Game 2 can be different,” Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue told reporters. “Gotta make a few adjustments and do a couple of things better, but overall when you have an opportunity to carry Steph and Klay to twenty points combined and outrebound this team also, get to the free-throw line double the quantity of times they get to the free-throw line. Those are some great things that we did so we’ve just got to construct off of that.” The Warriors’ motto for the playoffs is “strength in numbers,” and the team showed off their depth with big games from reserves Shaun Livingston, Leandro Barbosa and Andre Iguodala. “Those guys have a capability to raise their game to the situation, that's hard for plenty of players at the bench,” general manager Bob Myers told the San Francisco Chronicle. “It’s harder to get up within the bigger moments. That’s usually left to the celebs. But they’re pros, they’ve been within the league a very long time and they’ve been through a lot, so they’re acutely aware of the situation.”
