With Sydney being such a global city, it's no surprise that it attracts one of the most world's great events. And tonight Sydney will again be under the international spotlight at it hosts the official opening game of the most important League Baseball season.
Sydney has gone just a little baseball mad. It has been the controversy of the city and the baseball players visiting from the united states has been here all week running promotions across the city and building the hype for this weekend's double header between the la Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
When I arrived in Sydney a couple of days ago, the very first thing I did was talk a walk around Darling Harbour. At one end of the harbour there have been giant inflatable baseballs floating within the water where there has been a promotion running where you need to win a visit to L. a.. Just fill out a kind and also you were within the draw for the highest prize, but you furthermore may got a possibility to whack a couple of plastic baseballs off a tee into the harbour. There has been a baseball diamond roped off within the water and for those who could hit a house" run" from three swings you'd score a T-shirt.
I do not know about baseball, but I REALLY LIKE free stuff so I said, "Sure, why not?" as I took the plastic bat and lined up. My first goal was not to accidentally throw the bat into the water. My second goal was not to throw out my back. If I MAY satisfy the primary two goals, then I USED TO BE aiming for the stands!
Ball #1, I shanked badly. Ball #2, not a lot better. The gang giggled. Hmmm, maybe this baseball thing is harder than it looks. It was all or nothing now as I got underneath ball #3 and went whack! The crowed watched in awe because it sailed high and long for the house run! BOOM!
And with that one shot, I'd caught the baseball bug.
There are talks that Australia is at the verge of a baseball boom on this country, and after this weekend is done, that may be especially true. The SCG, a standard home of cricket, was radically converted right into a baseball stadium (take a look at the video below) and the (rather pricey) tickets have already been sold out.
Even this morning here on the ANZPT event, we had one player arise to us to invite what number of levels we were playing today. His problem was that he was already lined as much as visit the baseball tonight. So if a choice must be made later tonight, wouldn't it be poker or baseball?
"Baseball evidently! It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!" came the reply.
So if his poker chips are left to fend for themselves, there's just one thing left to do. Run it up!
