Every week the Super Tuesday -- the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament on PokerStars -- brings out a difficult field of top online talent. The sector may be usually quite large, too, and this week saw another big, talented group of players pop out.
The tournament usually takes a very long time as well, although this week that wasn't necessarily the case as NhFy of Sweden managed to top a field of 542 in lower than 10 hours, a comparatively quick Super Tuesday's night work that earned the winner a handsome $102,980 award.
That field meant a $542,000 prize pool -- well over the tourney's $300K guarantee -- with the highest 63 finishers scheduled to separate the money.
After slightly over five hours they were right down to 64 players and hand-for-hand play commenced. It took a while, but once you have whittled all the way down to not up to a large blind Jason "jadedjason" James was finally ousted by Leqenden in 64th and the cash bubble burst. At that time MoshiMoshi84 was leading the way in which with just below 200,000 chips, on the time greater than 50,000 away from second-place Kolkelini.
Not long after that it was the lone remaining Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden falling in 56th place for a $2,384.80 cash. Lodden's last hand saw the Norwegian reraising all in for his last 10 big blinds with K♦J♦, get called by bunajba who held A♥Q♠, and bunajba's hand remain best.
A couple of hours later just 18 remained with MoshiMoshi84 still out in front with greater than 350,000 while second-place Bratishchev hovered around 300,000.
It took on the subject of an hour for nine more players to fall, by which period NhFy pushed up into the highest spot with greater than 780,000. jadkamal (18th), TudodePapai (17th), and randomclown4 (16th) each took away $4,336 for his or her finishes; Earl Hindman (15th), Halfrek (14th), and a$$ou (13th) made $5,420 apiece; and Schinken777 (12th), hownorez (11th), and Marty "TheLipoFund" Mathis (10th) made $6,504 for not quite making the overall table.
Seat 1: Bratishchev (Russia) -- 487,595
Seat 2: AllinAbath (Brazil) -- 292,518
Seat 3: jareth3542 (UK) -- 156,348
Seat 4: MoshiMoshi84 (Netherlands) -- 368,977
Seat 5: NhFy (Sweden) -- 782,901
Seat 6: Karolis "g.karolis" Grybauskas (Lithuania) -- 79,490
Seat 7: EVitoy (Brazil) -- 336,306
Seat 8: Timorm1 (Israel) -- 112,846
Seat 9: LilFishAtL (Mexico) -- 93,019
It only took a couple of minutes for some of the table's short stacks to fall as Karolis "g.karolis" Grybauskas was toppled in ninth.
With the blinds 2,800/5,600, AllinAbath raised to 11,200 from early position, MoshiMoshi84 called from a few seats over, then Grybauskas reraised all in with the 53,590 he had left from the cutoff seat. It folded back around and only MoshiMoshi84 called, showing A♣K♠ to the 7♣7♠ of g.karolis. The board came J♥K♣9♥J♦8♦, giving MoshiMoshi84 the easier pair and ending Grybauskas's run.
It could be over half an hour before another elimination would happen, wherein stretch the blinds went as much as 3,600/7,200 while AllinAbath's stack was knocked down under 32,000. Then a hand arose through which AllinAbath open-pushed all in from the cutoff with 6♣6♦ and got a single caller in NhFy within the big blind with T♥4♦. The Q♣J♣4♥ flop paired NhFy although AllinAbath was still ahead, however the 4♣ fell on fourth street to enhance NhFy to trips. The river was the 9♥, and AllinAbath was out in eighth.
About QUARTER-HOUR later NhFy had built the lead further, moving up over 1.2 million -- greater than thrice the closest challenger, LilFishAtL who had almost 360,000.
Then with the blinds as much as 4,000/8,000, NhFy raised to 16,800 from middle position, and Timorm1 reraised to 37,885 from the button. It folded back to NhFy who made it 88,000 to go, and when Timorm1 shoved for 230,624 total, NhFy called.
NhFy had A♥K♦ and Timorm1 J♦J♠, and when the flop came 7♦K♠4♥ NhFy had pulled ahead within the race. The turn was the 2♠ and river the 5♣, and Timorm1 was finished in seventh.
A twinkling of an eye after that LilFishAtL min-raised to 18,000 from the cutoff seat, then Bratishchev reraised all in for 160,760 from the button. The blinds got out, LilFishAtL called, and Bratishchev showed K♥J♠ to LilFishAtL's A♥T♦. The board brought no improvement to either player, coming 2♣Q♣5♦6♠4♠, and Bratishchev was done in sixth.
Soon it was NhFy raising to 18,900 from under the gun and EVitoy reraising all in for 159,033 from a seat over. jareth3542 then called the frenzy from the massive blind and NhFy stepped aside. jareth3542 had A♣Q♦ and EVitoy T♦T♥. The 4♠9♦9♠ flop meant EVitoy's tens were still best, however the turn brought the Q♠ to present jareth3542 the advantage. The river was the K♠ and EVitoy was knocked out in fifth.
The blinds moved to 10,000/20,000, and MoshiMoshi84 opened with a raise to 25,000 from the small blind. NhFy came backc with a three-bet to 60,000 from the large blind, MoshiMoshi84 pushed for 482,617, and NhFy called.
MoshiMoshi84: A♣T♣
NhFy: A♠8♦
MoshiMoshi84 had the dominating hand preflop, however the first three community cards came 2♣K♦8♠ and NhFy had gone from way behind to way in front. The turn was the J♣ and river the A♦, and MoshiMoshi84 was sent railward in fourth.
Following that hand NhFy was up over 1.65 million while jareth3542 had just below 752,000 and LilFishAtL about 302,000. The trio would play a dozen hands more with NhFy chipping up even further, then three quick hands played out that saw a comparatively rapid end to this week's Super Tuesday.
First it was jareth3542 opening with a 2x raise to 20,000 from the button, then NhFy reraised to 50,000 from the small blind. LilFishAtL folded, and jareth3542 four-bet to 105,000. NhFy reraised back to 960,000 and jareth3542 called with the 515,174 left behind.
Both players had picked up big pocket pairs, with NhFy's K♣K♥ prior to jareth3542's Q♠Q♥. The community cards came J♣6♠5♣, then T♦, then A♦, and jareth3542 was out.
NhFy was as much as 2,417,625 to start out heads-up play versus LilFishAtL who had 292,375, and the primary hand between them saw NhFy raising to 11,000 from the button, LilFishAtL shoving from the massive blind, and NhFy calling. LilFishAtL had Q♠8♠ and NhFy K♣4♦, and the 6♥5♥Q♥7♠T♠ board gave LilFishAtL a couple of queens and a double-up.
But one hand later it will end abruptly for LilFishAtL. At the tourney's final hand, LilFishAtL min-raised to 20,000, NhFy reraised to 50,000, LilFishAtL four-bet to 98,725, NhFy pushed just about all in, and LilFishAtL called with the 484,775 left.
NhFy: A♠T♣
LilFishAtL: A♥Q♥
LilFishAtL had a larger ace, however the T♦T♠9♠ flop swiftly gave NhFy a commanding lead within the hand. The turn was the 2♦ and river the J♦, and it was all over.
Congratulations to former SCOOP champion NhFy for bringing a large result in this week's Super Tuesday final table, then making relatively short work of items afterwards to say a nifty six-figure score!
