ANZPT6 Melbourne Day 3: Finals fever

September. The primary day of Spring. A BRAND NEW season. A fresh start. Flowers are blooming and birds are singing. New life.

September is all of these things, but when you ask an ordinary 20-something male living in Melbourne what September means to them, they'll probably say "footy finals". Well, no less than if they don't seem to be a Collingwood supporter.

Finals fever sweeps the town of Melbourne during September. Football is mentioned on TV, at the radio, within the newspapers, on the water cooler at work. Fans will wear their team scarfs at the train into work. Local business could have the finals draw posted of their storefront window. Cars will drive the streets with their team flag flapping within the wind out the backseat window.

Melbourne is a city that may be enthusiastic about finals, and we're expecting to peer that same passion within the Crown Poker site today. It's September and today is our grand final.

There are 34 players returning today for the general day of the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event. It is a small number compared to the 516 who started this event three days ago, but it's still far in need of the $253,000 winner's cheque.

The clubhouse leader is Vincent Chua. It is a position he's been in a position to maintain for the last two days, so if that trend continues, he'll be raising the trophy somewhat later this evening.

But it isn't that straightforward and Chua must get past a bunch of talented players including Dylan Honeyman, Anthony Legg, Michael Chrisanthopoulos, Phil Willcocks, Edison Nguyen, Luke Edwards, Anthony Aston and Aussie larrikin Dennis Huntly.

It's going to be an extended day on the office for players, staff and reporters alike. Estimates are no less than eleven levels, possibly much more like twelve or thirteen, until we crown a champion. To be able to mean an early AM finish for sure, so we are hoping our players got some good rest after last night's PokerStars player's party. They'll need all their strength and stamina to endure the physical and mental pressures of an extended day in the event that they need to be crowned our ANZPT Melbourne champion.
