Tom Marchese Wins Aria $100,000 Super High Roller II for $1,306,800

On Friday, Sept. 5, Aria Resort & Casino Las Vegas hosted its second $100,000 Super High Roller tournament. The development attracted 22 entries and generated a prize pool of $2,178,000. The highest three spots would pay out, and claiming the highest prize of $1,306,800 was Tom Marchese.

Cary Katz finished in second place for $653,400, and Brian Rast scored third for $217,800.

Several big names came out to Aria for the massive buy-in action. Of these who got into the combo were Doug Polk, David "Doc" Sands, Igor Kurganov, Jake Schindler, Philipp Gruissem, Andrew Robl, and Joseph Cheong.

Robl would become the tournament's bubble, falling in fourth place to Rast. Consistent with Poker Telegraph reports, Robl was all in with the K-Diamonds 9-Clubs against the K-Hearts Q-Spades for Rast. Robl was unable to come back from behind and fell in fourth place.

Rast will be the next to fall when his A-Spades 6-Spades got all in against the A-Hearts 10-Hearts for Marchese at the 10-Diamonds 6-Diamonds 5-Spades flop. Rast was behind and in trouble, and the 2-Clubs at the turn and K-Clubs at the river proved no help for the high-stakes poker player. He took his leave with a payday of $217,800, leaving Marchese to battle with Katz.

Marchese would eventually dispense of his opponent and claim the title. At the final hand, Katz's K- J- fell to Marchese's A- Q- and it was in all places. For Katz, the $653,400 score marked the second one largest of his poker career, coming just months after he placed eighth within the World Series of Poker $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop for $1,306,667.

For Marchese, the $1,306,800 score was impressive, but only the second one best in 2014 for the young pro. In June, Marchese took third within the Bellagio $100,000 Super High Roller for $1,465,451. Marchese now has over $7,500,000 in live tournament earnings.
