2014 CarbonPoker Card Player Player of the Year Update -- Daniel Colman Climbs To Ninth

Things are heating up again at the live tournament circuit after the usual August slowdown, and that suggests numerous movement within the coming weeks within the 2014 Card Player Player of the Year race, sponsored by CarbonPoker. Here's a take a look at what went down this week:

EPT Barcelona Super High Roller

The 2014 European Poker Tour Barcelona €50,000 super high roller set the record for the biggest turnout in such an event at the EPT with 77 entries, building a complete prize pool of nearly €3.7 million. After three days of play the record field was narrowed right down to just two players, with a last heads-up battle between two experts of the format: Olivier Busquet and his former protege Daniel Colman.

The two agreed to a deal heads-up that assured Busquet €866,434 and Colman €843,066 and left them playing for the title and a five figure swing. Busquet came out on top, earning his first EPT title, the €896,434 first-place prize and 714 POY points.

Colman scored €843,066 and 595 points, which have been enough to catapult him into ninth place within the overall POY leader board. This was the young american pro’s fifth final table of the year, with victories in two of the biggest poker events ever held: the $1 million buy-in Big One For One Drop and the EPT Grand Final €100,000 super high roller. Those two wins alone netted him over $17.4 million. Colman now has $19,534,058 in year-to-date live tournament earnings, which moves him into sixth place at the live tournament all-time earnings list.

Fourth-place finisher Scott Seiver earned €364,200 and 357 POY points at this fifth final table of the year and climbed into 21st place within the POY standings with 2,342 points and year-to-date earnings of $3,739,069.

Heartland Poker Tour Ameristar East Chicago

The Heartland Poker Tour Ameristar East Chicago $1,650 no-limit hold’em main event attracted 538 players, building a $771,720 prize pool.

In the top Aaron Massey emerged victorious, defeating Stan Jablonski heads-up to capture the title and the $177,502 first-place prize.

This was Massey’s second final table of the year, having finished third in a global Series of Poker $1,500 no-limit hold’em event this summer for $255,209. These two scores also netted him 840 and 720 POY points, and in consequence he now sits in a three-way tie for 67th place within the overall standings with Abraham Korotki and Zachary Gruneberg also having each accrued 1,560 POY points to this point in 2014.
